Dollar Store Ugliness to Girl Room Cuteness!

Just a quick and easy project this morning!

Took a stroll through Honk's Dollar Store the other day.
(yes, that is really the name of the store)
Found these metal butterflies, that I think are meant for the garden.
For a dollar each I thought a little bit of spray paint could go a long way!
I envisioned them being super cute hung in my daughters room.
I WAS RIGHT!!

Don't they look cute!
I kind of just want to stock up and keep some on hand.
You never know when you may need some cute butterflies.

End Table Before & After

I love to just browse the DI every couple of weeks.  You never know what you might find there that you can't live without!
Found this diamond in the rough at the DI and I knew I couldn't live without it!

You know my love affair with spray paint.  I thought if I spruced this table up it would look gorgeous in my living room.  The question was, what color?  I thought about orange, then blue.  I thought about all white.
After asking for some opinions on FB, this is what I came up with!
I LOVE IT!
I sanded and spray painted the bottom white.  Then I sanded and stained the top with a dark walnut stain that I use on everything.
Isn't she pretty?  I'm still flirting with the idea of either distressing the bottom, or using a glaze.  But for now I am pleased!

My Pallet Coffee Table

I'm sure you've been seeing all the great things people are doing with pallets lately.

Theatre Seating

Patio Furniture

Porch Swing

End Tables

and of course, Coffee Tables!

These are what I'm currently obsessed with.  We haven't had a coffee table for years.  For some time, we just thought it took up too much room.  We wanted the space to play with our baby and not worry about her hitting her head on the corner.  Then as she got older, I couldn't quite find one that I liked or could afford.

And then I saw this lovely thing!
Isn't she gorgeous?
But I wanted her for my living room.
So the search for pallets began.  I couldn't figure out where everyone was picking up these pallets.  I looked high and low, behind businesses.  I finally found a couple hidden spots, but did you know that no two pallets are the same?  Grrrr.  So to make a long story short, I went with just one nice pallet.

And this is the lovely lady I ended up with.

I could go on and on about my issues with the sanding, staining, sanding it down again and of course staining it again but I'll just move on.

So here she sits in my living room in all her glory.  I'm loving it!

Getting Ready For School!

It's that time of year again. Back To School! It's shopping for school supplies and school clothes, and the big question, what to wear on the first day?
This is the winner for our first day of first grade!
While visiting family this summer, my niece had this super cute Roxy dress, it's all one piece.
(This picture is not my niece)
I loved it so much, but it didn't come in Sadie's size, so I made my own!
I was able to make it with just one yard of fabric. Bummer for me, the stripes came vertical, not horizontal like I needed, so the fabric wasn't quite wide enough. After some drama with matching the stripes I got the pieces I need and was able to get the stripes to match up.
The waistband was a new experience for me too. Just so you know, I am NOT a sewer. I can thread my machine and sew in straight lines, but this pushed my skills to the limit! I made my sash in plain black because I truly didn't know if I would have enough fabric left of the stripes.
But after all the DRAMA and a few phone calls to a nice friend who CAN sew, I'm very pleased with the finished product!
That's my girl!

Another Skirt

I think I'm kind of getting good at this sewing stuff! I guess as long as it's in a straight line. I bought this material the same time as the other. This one was Sadie's pick. It wasn't my favorite, but I thought, why not?
I had planned on doing the same style as the other, but after seeing so many ruffles out there, I went for the ruffles! I was actually pleased with how it turned out! YAY!
Already picked up some material for another! We'll see what I can do with that one.

God Bless America

I needed something for my door. I think I saw the idea on Pinterest.
Picked up some wooden stars at Michaels, covered them (I did this step twice because I didn't like the first round) and cut out the letters with my Cricut.
