Dollar Store Ugliness to Girl Room Cuteness!

Just a quick and easy project this morning!

Took a stroll through Honk's Dollar Store the other day.
(yes, that is really the name of the store)
Found these metal butterflies, that I think are meant for the garden.
For a dollar each I thought a little bit of spray paint could go a long way!
I envisioned them being super cute hung in my daughters room.
I WAS RIGHT!!

Don't they look cute!
I kind of just want to stock up and keep some on hand.
You never know when you may need some cute butterflies.

End Table Before & After

I love to just browse the DI every couple of weeks.  You never know what you might find there that you can't live without!
Found this diamond in the rough at the DI and I knew I couldn't live without it!

You know my love affair with spray paint.  I thought if I spruced this table up it would look gorgeous in my living room.  The question was, what color?  I thought about orange, then blue.  I thought about all white.
After asking for some opinions on FB, this is what I came up with!
I LOVE IT!
I sanded and spray painted the bottom white.  Then I sanded and stained the top with a dark walnut stain that I use on everything.
Isn't she pretty?  I'm still flirting with the idea of either distressing the bottom, or using a glaze.  But for now I am pleased!

My Pallet Coffee Table

I'm sure you've been seeing all the great things people are doing with pallets lately.

Theatre Seating

Patio Furniture

Porch Swing

End Tables

and of course, Coffee Tables!

These are what I'm currently obsessed with.  We haven't had a coffee table for years.  For some time, we just thought it took up too much room.  We wanted the space to play with our baby and not worry about her hitting her head on the corner.  Then as she got older, I couldn't quite find one that I liked or could afford.

And then I saw this lovely thing!
Isn't she gorgeous?
But I wanted her for my living room.
So the search for pallets began.  I couldn't figure out where everyone was picking up these pallets.  I looked high and low, behind businesses.  I finally found a couple hidden spots, but did you know that no two pallets are the same?  Grrrr.  So to make a long story short, I went with just one nice pallet.

And this is the lovely lady I ended up with.

I could go on and on about my issues with the sanding, staining, sanding it down again and of course staining it again but I'll just move on.

So here she sits in my living room in all her glory.  I'm loving it!

Born On The 4th Of July!

I'm so excited for Independence Day this year! I've seen so many cute things in the blogospehere and found a few things I had to make.
Starting with this beadboard flag.

Isn't it AWESOME!
Thank you Brown Paper Packages.

And I couldn't resist making a patriotic monogram! The only thing I ran out of time for was my "freedom" banner. Maybe next year!

Orange-Ya Glad I Finished This Project!

I started this project almost a year ago and put it aside. Then of course it got packed up and hauled to Utah, and recently I pulled it out and did something with it.

I used some really orange spray paint...

and some glaze...

See what I mean by REALLY orange? EEEK!

This is what I got!

I used some frames and matting I already had and walah!

I know what you're thinking, the gold and glass frame does NOT go, but I haven't had time to take the photos out and put them in another frame. That's another project for another day!

It's Finally Done!

After a lot of hard work, I finally got it all done! I am so happy with my "new" piece of furniture. With a lot of mistakes and learning experiences I am pleased with the way it came out.

This was a passed down dresser. We got it from Aaron's parents, who got it from Aaron's grandparents, who I believe recieved it second hand themselves.

I loved the idea of doing it two-toned, so I stained the top with a dark walnut stain. I originally wanted new hardware, but on a budget I made the decision to just spray paint the hardware I had for now. I LOVE the way it turned out, I just may keep it this way.
